Mangaluru: The Youth Red Cross (YRC) of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dakshina Kannada, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Regional Response Centre Bengaluru, organised a one-day district-level Disaster Management Training at the Yendurance Zone, Deralakatte, Mangaluru.
Inaugural session stresses youth involvement
The event was inaugurated by Sri Raju K, who highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness and the active role of youth in mitigating and responding to emergencies. He emphasised that timely action and community-driven initiatives are vital in building resilience.
Sri CA Shantharama Shetty, also present at the event, underlined the role of youth in disaster management and how their engagement can help shape stronger, more resilient communities.
Yenepoya reiterates commitment to community service
The programme was presided over by Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), who reaffirmed the university’s dedication to fostering both learning and service. He urged students and volunteers to equip themselves with the skills and knowledge required for effective disaster response.
Other dignitaries present included Dr. Gangadhara Somayaji K.S. (Registrar, Yenepoya University), Mr. Vijayakumar Pujari (Nodal Officer, DDMA Dakshina Kannada), and Mrs. Nithyashree B.V. (YRC Nodal Officer), who played key roles in coordinating the training programme.
Active participation from students and volunteers
The training programme drew enthusiastic participation from YRC volunteers, programme officers, faculty coordinators, and students across Yenepoya’s constituent colleges.
The session began with a prayer led by Ms. Aza Ashraf (Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Yenepoya Medical College) and was compered by Mrs. Adrija Bhuniya, Programme Officer, Pharmacy College.
The day concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Nithyashree B.V., who acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders, trainers, and participants in making the event a success.
