Mangaluru: The Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital, in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi, and under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2025 with a dynamic and spiritually enriching programme titled “Yoga Sangam”. The event took place at the scenic Yendurance Zone of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) from 6:00 AM to 7:45 AM, drawing together students, faculty, and yoga enthusiasts from various allied institutions.

A vibrant start with prayers and lamp lighting

The event commenced with the Master of Ceremony Dr Vajrakshi, followed by a soulful prayer by Hajia Thafseera, a first-year BNYS student. The Yoga Prayer was led by Dr Apith Kumar, setting a serene and spiritually grounded tone for the morning.

The ceremonial lamp lighting was performed by key dignitaries, including:

  • Dr Gangadhar Somayaji K.S., Registrar, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University)

  • Dr Vijayendra V. Itagi, Principal, Yenepoya Homoeopathic Medical College

  • Dr Puneeth Raghavendra K R, Principal, Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College

  • Dr Padmashree, Dr Sangeethalaxmi, and Dr Arpith

  • The event was a combined effort with active support from Yenepoya Ayurveda Medical College, Homoeopathic Medical College, and Nursing College, showcasing the institution’s interdisciplinary approach to wellness.

    Yoga protocol and live address by the Prime Minister

    Following the welcome address by Dr Puneeth Raghavendra K R, Dr Gangadhar Somayaji delivered the inaugural address, emphasising the holistic health benefits of yoga and the role of institutions in nurturing mindful practices among youth.

    Dignitaries were honoured with mementos, and the gathering tuned in for a live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address, reinforcing the national vision of “Yoga for Self and Society – One Earth, One Health.”

    Participants then engaged in the International Day of Yoga (IDY) Protocol, a structured series of yoga postures and breathing techniques led by Dr Arpith, fostering unity and concentration among attendees.

    Motivational session and cultural celebrations

    The second half of the event featured Dr Dwaraknath, Naturopathy and Yoga Physician from Tapasya Mitra Foundation, as the Guest of Honour. His motivational talk encouraged students to embrace naturopathy as a service-oriented profession rooted in discipline and compassion.

    The welcome speech for the session was delivered by Dr Abhijna, and a report on Yoga Day activities conducted across the college and hospital was presented by Dr Padmashree, reflecting the institution’s active outreach.

    The Chief Guest, Dr B.T. Nandeesh, Controller of Examinations at Yenepoya University, delivered a keynote address, applauding the student community for their commitment to yoga and holistic wellness.

    Both guests were felicitated by Dr Puneeth Raghavendra K R, reinforcing the college’s gratitude for their presence and wisdom.

    The celebration concluded with cultural performances by BNYS students, showcasing themes related to yoga, mental wellbeing, and Indian heritage. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms Priya Mathew, bringing the curtain down on a soulful and successful morning of celebration.
