A devastating road accident occurred when a young man transporting a newly purchased second-hand car lost his life in Bantwal taluk.
The victim, identified as Naufal from Harekala Pavoor, had reportedly bought the pre-owned vehicle on BC Road. While driving it towards Thumbay along the highway, he lost control near Lower Thumbay. The car veered onto the central divider and overturned, landing on the opposite lane that leads to Mangaluru.
At that moment, a container lorry traveling from Mangaluru collided with the overturned car. Naufal sustained severe injuries in the impact. Though he was immediately rushed to the hospital, doctors confirmed he died en route due to the extent of his wounds.
Bantwal Traffic Police officers arrived promptly at the location, conducted a preliminary inquiry, and filed a case regarding the incident.
The accident has caused widespread sorrow in the community, as locals expressed shock over the sudden loss of a young life. Road safety campaigners have stressed that extra caution is necessary when driving second-hand vehicles that may have undiscovered mechanical faults. They also highlighted the importance of using experienced drivers and carrying out thorough inspections before taking such vehicles on highways.
Authorities are expected to examine all possible factors, including technical defects and speed, that may have led to the tragic mishap.
