Udupi: A serious accident occurred near Hejamadi Toll Plaza around 4 a.m. on Monday, leaving two individuals injured after their car collided with the rear of a stationary lorry.
The victims have been identified as Lokesh (43) from Kodikare and Viraj (29) from Kulai. Reports indicate that the two were returning home after attending a programme when the mishap occurred.
The lorry, which was loaded with wooden planks, was reportedly parked a short distance from the toll gate. The car driver failed to notice the lorry in time and crashed into it from behind, resulting in a devastating impact that left the car severely damaged.
Viraj was trapped inside the mangled car, and it took nearly an hour for local residents and toll staff to rescue him. Emergency services rushed both victims to a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.
Padubidri police arrived at the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.
