In a heartbreaking incident near Deralakatte, a young girl tragically lost her life after a retaining wall gave way due to the continuous downpour over the past few days.

The victim, identified as Nayeema, was the daughter of Naushad, a resident of Kanakare in Belma village. According to local reports, a hillock and the retaining structure situated behind their residence crumbled under pressure from the heavy rainfall.

As a result of the collapse, a window frame from the house was dislodged and fell on the child, who was inside the room at the time. The force of the debris caused severe injuries to Nayeema.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility in a critical condition. Despite the efforts of doctors, she succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead shortly after admission.

Residents and authorities believe the saturated soil and weakened structures due to relentless rain may have contributed to the tragedy. The incident has sparked concern among locals, many of whom live in similarly vulnerable areas across the rain-battered Dakshina Kannada district.

With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting continued heavy showers, the district administration is urging families in landslide-prone zones to take precautions and remain alert.

This incident adds to a growing list of rain-related casualties in the region, underlining the urgent need for safety measures and disaster preparedness.
