Bengaluru: The inaugural flight to the newly constructed Shivamogga Airport is set to arrive as planned on August 31. Notable passengers on this maiden journey will include ministers MB Patil and Madhu Bangarappa, former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, MP BY Raghavendra, and other public representatives from the Malnad region.
According to Infrastructure Development Minister MB Patil’s press release on Tuesday, Shivamogga Airport will mark the state government’s first airport operation. He stated, “The airport is expected to play a significant role in driving economic, industrial, tourism, and educational growth in the region.”
Patil also emphasized that the Shivamogga Airport will play a crucial role as a connecting hub for the Malnad and Central Karnataka districts.
The Indigo flight is slated to take off from Bengaluru’s Kempe Gowda International Airport at 9:50 a.m. and touch down at the Shivamogga Airport at 11:05 a.m. Upon landing, a celebratory Water Canon Salute will take place, as stated by Minister Patil.
He indicated that the initial response to the flight service has been encouraging, with advance ticket bookings extending for the next three weeks.
This service will also be advantageous for individuals from nearby districts such as Chikkamagaluru, Davangere, Chitradurga, and Haveri. Minister Patil elaborated that the forthcoming objective is to establish connections to destinations like Delhi, Hyderabad, Tirupati, Chennai, and Goa through direct flight services. Furthermore, he shared that the tender has been initiated under the UDAN scheme to expand flight operations from Shivamogga.
