A diverse gathering of around 15,000 people—from three-year-old Hima of Kudligi to 70-year-old Rathnamma of Kempisiddanahundi—unrolled their mats at Mysuru Palace on Saturday morning to celebrate the 11th International Yoga Day in the Yoga Capital of the World.

The event saw participation from dignitaries including District Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MLA T.S. Srivatsa, and top officials like DC G. Lakshmikanth Reddy and City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar. Leaders from educational and health institutions, including Prof. Shailendra Mohan (CIIL) and Dr. C. Renuka Devi (AYUSH) also joined.

Minister Mahadevappa emphasized yoga’s role in enhancing well-being, promoting peace and unity, and called for introducing yoga in schools and building a dedicated convention centre in Mysuru. MP Yaduveer recalled the legacy of Mysuru’s Maharajas and yoga pioneers like Krishnamacharya, K. Pattabhi Jois, and B.K.S. Iyengar.

Yoga was performed by:

  • 1,000+ instructors and students from 500 yoga schools
  • AYUSH centres, naturopathy and Ayurveda colleges
  • Students from KREIS, social welfare hostels, and private schools
  • Over 1,000 students from University of Mysore at Gangotri Glades

Backed by multiple state and central departments, the event also included breakfast and extended to 100+ venues across Mysuru, with parallel events in Hassan, Mandya, and Chamarajanagar.
