The third edition of the much-loved ‘Avarekalu Mudde Oota’ event will be held on July 26 at Yoganarasimhaswamy Temple in Vijayanagar, Mysuru. Organised by Punyakoti Seva Trust, along with Mandya residents in Mysuru and the Mysuru District Citizens Forum, the initiative seeks to reconnect the youth with the nutritional richness of traditional Indian food.

🔹 Event Highlights:

  • Aims to raise awareness among younger generations about protein- and calcium-rich foods like avarekalu (hyacinth beans) and ragi mudde (millet balls).
  • Over 10,000 participants are expected, up from 5,000 in its first year and 8,000 last year.
  • Supported by MLAs GT Devegowda, K Harishgowda, and Ramesh Bandisiddegowda.

🔹 What Organisers Say:
Event organiser Hanumanthesh, president of Punyakoti Seva Trust, said the focus is to encourage healthy, simple diets and reduce dependence on wasteful multi-dish meals served at social gatherings.

“We often see food wastage when people overload plates with sweets and curries. Through this event, we promote nutritious meals that nourish without excess,” he said.

🔹 Bigger Message:
This festival is more than a meal—it’s a call to embrace sustainability, health-conscious eating, and cultural roots in a fast-changing food landscape.

Attendees can expect not just a wholesome meal, but a deeper understanding of how local, seasonal, and traditional foods can help build healthier communities.
