In a heartbreaking incident in Raichur district, Karnataka, three members of a family — a father and two daughters — died following suspected food poisoning, while three others from the same household remain under medical care.
The victims have been identified as Ramesh (35) and his daughters Nagamma (8) and Deepa (6). The family, residing in K. Thimmapur village, Sirwar taluk, had consumed a homemade dinner on Monday night, which included cluster bean curry, rotti, rice, and sambar.
Around 4 am, all six members of the family complained of intense abdominal pain and were taken to Lingsugur Hospital. Ramesh and Nagamma passed away before medical attention could be provided, while Deepa reportedly died while being shifted to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
Ramesh’s wife, Padmavati, along with their other children, Krishna (11) and Chaitra (10), are receiving treatment and are under close observation.
The local police in Kavital have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident. The exact cause of the suspected poisoning is yet to be determined, though contaminated food is being considered as a primary factor.
This tragic episode follows a similar food safety concern in Kalaburagi district, where 25 school children fell ill after eating a midday meal at a government primary school in Maradagi (S.A.) village on July 16. The children exhibited symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea and were promptly treated at the Gangawara Primary Health Centre.
Health officials are urging increased vigilance and food hygiene awareness.
