Mysuru: Following the death of an under trial in Mysuru prison, ADGP (prisons ) suspended two jail staff members citing dereliction of duty during his visit to the jail premises on Friday, November 11.
The decision was taken by ADGP (Prisons) Sathyanaryana Rao after consulting jail superintendents Ananda Reddy and A C Divyashree.
Meanwhile the autopsy of the deceased was carried out in the presence of judicial magistrate at 10pm in the night. The procedure was carried out after collecting statement from the deceased’s relatives after they arrived from Mangaluru.
Old enmity led to murder
It is gathered that old enmity between the two led to the murder of Mustafa. Mysuru city police commissioner revealed that the accused Kiran Shetty used a table spoon to kill his fellow undertrial ruling out the use of a knife. The CCTV footage has all details of the murder and the police are now investigating the accused to collect more details on the heinous crime.
Understaffed jail gave free hand to the killer to execute his plan
The security staff members were deployed at different places on account of Tipu Jayanthi. In addition, few of them were deployed in health care centers where the prisoners are treated and the rest in kitchen and other locations of the jail premises. The accused used the opportunity to carry out the murder of the fellow undertrail when the jail was understaffed and only 10 policemen were managing the total prisoner strength of 924 members.
It may be recalled, Mustafa, an accused in the killing of Bajrang Dal activist Praveen Poojary in 2015 at Moodabidri, lodged in Mysuru jail was killed by another prisoner Kiran Shetty from Mangaluru on November 10.
