Mysuru: In view of the severe drought and farmer suicides across Karnataka, the Mysuru Royal family is likely to return Rs 30 lakh honorarium, which is given to the family by the state government during Dasara.
Earlier the state government had decided to hold annual Dasara celebration at the Mysuru Palace in a low key manner due to the on-going drought like conditions in the state.
The honorarium given to the royal family was increased from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh after Siddaramaiah became the Chief Minister.
According to sources Pramoda Devi Wadiyar who is closely following farmers’ problems, is likely to return the cheque to the government. Participating in a function at Mandya recently, Pramoda Devi had appealed to the farmers not to commit suicide. The farmers of the region have respect for the royal family’s contributions, including the construction of Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.
