Mysuru: An agricultural expert from Israel will visit the city on April 15 to conduct a workshop on employing innovative methods to enhance productivity in Horticultural crops, said Kurubur Shanthakumar, President of state sugarcane growers Union.
Speaking to media, Kuruburu Shanthakumar said, a special workshop will be held at Rajendra Bhavan near ESI hospital. Agri expert from Israel will brief local farmers on the methods and processes employed by the farming community in the field of horticulture in Israel, a country known for adopting state-of-the-art methods in most fields including agriculture.
At the same time, Shanthakumar asked the central government to drop the idea of importing of 5 lakh metric tonne sugar by depriving the local sugarcane growers of reasonable prices for their produce.
He appreciate the UP government for waiving Rs 36000 Cr farm loans and ridiculed the state government for not doing enough in this direction despite the state facing successive drought for 3 years. He questioned the state government’s move of providing Rs 1.25 lakh subsidy amount to meat sellers starting business afresh.
He demanded a minimum support price of Rs 3 lakh per tonne to sugar cane growers in the state. Many other leaders representing farmer unions were present at the briefing.
