Mysuru: Alert citizens acted swiftly to nab a chain snatcher trying to flee with a gold chain at Belvadi here on Monday, July 25.
Suma, Gram Panchayat Member and wife of Mahadevu who came out of her house for a regular stroll, was the victim. The chain snatcher, who was hiding near her house, pounced on her and was successful in snatching the chain. Suma screamed for help and the public gathered in large number.
After getting sufficient clues from Suma, they managed to search for the culprits. They came to know that the chain snatcher was hiding near a petrol bunk. The residents nabbed him and beat him black and blue before handing him over to police who took him to Vijayanagar police station. Vijayanagar police who arrested the accused are investigating.
Usually, chain snatchers come in bike, but the chain snatcher’s modus operandi was to hide near houses and pounce on women who come out of their house for regular morning stroll, snatch their chain and run away.
