Mysuru: A woman from Periyapatna who has been sheltered in a mental health centre in Shimla may soon return home with the help of Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy.

Padma, from Kamalapura village of Periyapatna Taluk in Mysuru district who has been sheltered at Himachal Hospital of Mental Health and Rehabilitation (HHMHR) in Shimla from the past two years was awaiting help from Karnataka government to get back to her native Mysuru and be with her family members.

According to officials of HHMHR, Padma was sent to the hospital in Shimla from a medical college hospital at Tanda in 2016. Since then, she is under treatment at the rehabilitation centre. Following a video message in Kannada, which was circulated on social media, her family members recognized her and later when it was brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner Abhiram Sankar, he intervened and assured to try his level best to get her back to Mysuru.

After treatment, she told her ordeal to doctors who got in touch with Karnataka government. Though her family members knew about her stay in the hospital, they were not able to get her back due to financial instability.

Krishnamurthy, Vice President of Doddabelalu Gram Panchayat who married Padma’s younger sister said that Padma got married to a person from Channarayapatna. Even after couple of years of her marriage, she was not having issues and due to this her husband left her. She slipped into depression and she may have left the home and some how reached Shimla.

Krishnamurthy said that Padma’s mother’s ailing health, collapse of their house and deteriorating financial situation prevented them from paying attention towards Padma.

Speaking to Newskarnataka Deputy Commissioner Abhiram Sankar said “Team is ready to get Padma who is in Shimla. On Tuesday morning, a proposal will be sent to health and family welfare department. Chief Minister’s office is also following it up. Immediately team will be approved and will be sent to Shimla seeing the convenient time that is well before four to five days or by coming Monday. We are also trying to get one among their family members to accompany the team.”
