Over 50,000 people gathered at the Maharaja’s College Ground in Mysuru on Saturday for a massive convention organised by the Mysuru district administration and Zilla Panchayat. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated and laid the foundation for a staggering 74 development works across 24 departments, worth ₹2,578.03 crore.
Of these, 18 projects worth ₹280.15 crore were inaugurated, while the foundation stone was laid for 56 works totalling ₹2,297.88 crore. Key among them were ₹502.41 crore worth of roadworks across Mysuru city, including white-topping of major roads like Irwin Road, JLB Road, Nazarbad City Road, and several key junctions and connectors.
The Health Department projects, totalling ₹55.50 crore, include the construction of new hospitals, primary health centres, and labs across various taluks. For energy infrastructure, ₹408.95 crore worth of CESC and KPTCL projects were launched, including conversion of overhead lines to underground cables in Mysuru’s major constituencies.
Major highlights include a ₹120 crore palace-style KSRTC bus terminal at Bannimantapa, a ₹192.99 crore Unity Mall at KEA grounds, and several beautification projects at Doddakere, including a floating dragon boat park and themed fountains. The CM also inaugurated a ₹175.50 crore Peripheral Cancer Centre and a ₹3 crore Gandhi Bhavan.
The day also saw a touching moment as the CM and Energy Minister K J George handed over a ₹10.6 crore compensation cheque to the family of Mahesh, a CESC lineman who died in the line of duty.
