Concern Raised Over Stray Dog Population and Lack of MCC Action
In response to the recent news item, ‘Stray dog attacks nine persons,’ published in Star of Mysore on August 16, and subsequent reports on August 17, there remains a notable lack of concrete action from Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) regarding the stray dog issue.
An attached photograph highlights a 20-meter stretch of the 4th Main Road in Gokulam 3rd Stage, showing at least 14 stray dogs congregating in the area. These dogs are seen feeding on wet waste discarded in a large open space that has been vacant since the layout’s establishment. This situation raises concerns about public health and safety, as the dogs are known to be attracted to the waste.
Gokulam 3rd Stage, known for its yoga activities and frequented by international visitors who often feed the stray dogs out of compassion, faces additional challenges. Some residents also contribute to the problem by feeding the dogs leftovers and biscuits. This lack of awareness about the risks associated with rabies, a fatal disease with no cure, exacerbates the issue.
Residents are calling for immediate and decisive action from the MCC to address the stray dog population effectively. The hope is for the authorities to implement measures to control the situation and ensure public safety.
