Concerns Over Waste Management Contract In Mysuru

The citizens of Mysuru have expressed discontent regarding the decision to award a contract for clearing over 6 lakh tonnes of legacy waste at the Vidyaranyapuram solid waste treatment plant. They are particularly concerned about the selection of a company with limited experience in handling large-scale projects for this crucial task.

Bhamy V Shenoy of the Mysore Grahakara Parishat has addressed a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging his intervention to appoint a competent contractor capable of clearing the substantial legacy waste in a scientific manner. Shenoy emphasized the importance of improving Mysuru’s ranking in the all-India Swachch Survekshan Survey, which has been adversely affected by the non-clearance of legacy waste.

Despite Shenoy’s efforts, the decision to award the contract to a Surat-based company, rejecting three other bidders, including one deemed competent, has raised eyebrows. Shenoy argued against this decision, highlighting procedural irregularities such as the rejection based on vehicle registration details.

Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa, a BJP leader, defended the company’s selection, asserting that all requirements were met. However, a citizen’s forum has objected to the decision, urging authorities to revisit the tender process. Despite these objections, the global tender process has concluded, and work is yet to commence.
