Mysuru: A husband’s insane desire to own a BMW luxury car drove his wife to end her life at her maternal home in Mysuru.

In yet another evident case of dowry death, a young BE graduate named Akshatha (25) hanged herself to death at her maternal home penning down the pain that she was enduring while her husband Manjunath, father in-law Puttegowda, mother in-law Sudhaman and others kept pestering her for dowry and expensive gifts.

Akshatha was married to Manjunath four-years-ago and her family had spent a romping Rs 50 lac for the wedding in Bengaluru. Manjunath hails from a rich family and he owns ST Residency at Majestic in Bengaluru along with couple of other business ventures in state capital. But, the family’s greed for more money made them ill-treat Akshatha. After a series of demands of Manjunath was met, the latest demand was for a BMW car. Keeping this demand, Manjunath had sent Ashatha to his maternal home. Soon, Manjunath had even called her up and threatened her that he would give her Rs 2,000 per month for living and that she need not return to him without the car. While Akshatha was finding it difficult to cope up with the persistent torture, she decided to end it all in one go. She hanged herself after penning down the ordeal that she was going through. Saraswathipuram police have registered a case. Meanwhile, all the accused are at large. The couple has a three-year-old boy child.
