Four members of a family were viciously assaulted with sharp weapons while traveling in an auto-rickshaw in Mysuru late Thursday night.
The attack occurred around 9:30 pm on 14th Cross Ramanuja Road in Agrahara. CCTV and mobile footage circulating on social media show a group of men striking the auto passengers with machetes in public, as bystanders watched in shock but did not intervene.
The victims included Rajanna, who sustained severe injuries, along with his wife, mother-in-law, and niece. All were rushed to a nearby hospital, and police confirmed they are out of danger.
DCP (Crime) KS Sundar Raj said a case of attempt to murder has been registered against four accused, and Krishnaraja police have launched an investigation.
According to officials, Rajanna is an accused in a POCSO case involving the sexual abuse of a minor girl. He had recently met the same girl again after she turned 18, angering her family members. Police believe this confrontation prompted the violent retaliation while Rajanna was leaving Vidyaranyapuram police station after giving a statement.
Efforts are underway to trace and arrest all the attackers involved.
