Fifty-three convicts serving life sentence released

Mysuru: In a goodwill gesture displayed by the Mysuru Jail Advisory Board, fifty-three life convicts were released from the Mysuru Jail for good conduct. The Board had recommended the release of 59 convicts, it has been reported.


53 convicts, who were serving a life sentence and were lodged in Mysuru Central Jail, were released on the grounds of good conduct at a programme organised at the jail premises last evening, September 18.

The Mysuru Central Jail Advisory Board had sent a recommendation to the Government for the release of 59 convicts who were serving life sentence, on the basis of their good conduct.

The Government, after reviewing the recommendation, in a letter issued on Wednesday night, ordered the release of 56 out of the 59 recommended prisoners. The appeals of the 3 prisoners who were not released was yet to be disposed off by the Government, it is learnt. While 53 convicts were released from Mysuru Jail, three convicts were released from Bengaluru Jail.

All the released prisoners were issued release certificates and were advised to start a new life according to Jail Superintendent Divyashree. The released prisoners will be monitored by their jurisdictional Police for a period of time and the monitoring will stop once the Police feel that they have changed and have adapted well to the new life and society around them.

The 53 prisoners released from Mysuru Jail, are among the 252 prisoners released from different prisons across the State yesterday. It may be recalled that the State Government had last released life convicts for good conduct in 2006.

Legislative Council Dy. Chairman Marithibbegowda, MLAs Vasu and M.K. Somashekar, Mayor R. Lingappa, Jail Superintendent Divyashree, Chief Jail Superintendent P.V. Anand Reddy, SP Abhinav Khare, Corporators Suhail Baig, Fairoz Khan and Ramu, Jail staff and others were present.
