Mysuru: The forest department authorities rescued a female deer in city and on Saturday, and later released her in the nearby forest.
Reportedly, one-year old female deer was roaming on streets in Vidyaranyapuram area in the city limits at around 7pm.
As large crowd gathered in the vicinity, out of fear, the animal escaped and hid in Veerashaiva Burial Grounds near waste management plant.
Few people informed the forest department about the deer to which the forest personnel arrived on the spot.
They later caught the deer and provided first aid to the animal and shifted her to Arabithittu Forest, said Mysuru Division Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) B Basavaraju. The deer might have come from Bandipura National Park or Hunsur, said ACF.
The incidents of animals entering into city limits have become common these days due to human disturbances in forest areas. Despite Elephant Proof Trench (EPT) developed at forest borders to avoid animals entering into villages or city regions, locals fill up trenches for rearing cattle inside the forest, and thus wild animals take this way and come out of the forest, said ACF.
