A tragic early morning accident at Mysore Road Satellite Bus Stand claimed the life of a 50-year-old fruit vendor after he was crushed between a reversing car and a parked bus.
The deceased has been identified as M Swami Dorai.
Accident during parking movement
Police said the incident took place around 4.30 am on Sunday when Dorai had just arrived from Tamil Nadu along with his wife Jayashree. The couple were walking towards the BMTC station when the mishap occurred.
Officials said a parking lot attendant was trying to rearrange vehicles after another car entered the area.
A car owner had earlier handed over the vehicle keys to staff. While reversing the parked car to create space, the attendant allegedly lost control.
Pinned between car and bus
The reversing car reportedly struck Dorai and pinned him against a parked bus, causing severe injuries.
Passersby and bus stand staff rushed to help him and shifted him to Victoria Hospital for emergency treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Case registered
Byatarayanapura Traffic Police have registered a case against the parking lot attendant, identified as Balasubramaniam.
Police said charges include causing death by negligence and provisions related to drunk driving under the Motor Vehicles Act. The vehicle involved has been seized for investigation.
