Mysuru: In a turnaround of sorts, to everyone’s surprise the Government of Karnataka appointed R Rajanna as the Registrar of the University of Mysore (UoM) on Monday. The sudden transfer of predecessor Basavaraju has raised the eyebrows of many people.
The government’s order has come after two days of reinstating C Basavaraju as the Registrar following a High Court directive and on the eve of the 97th Convocation of the UoM.
Basavaraju has been posted back to his home department-Law, where he was teaching before being appointed as the Registrar. He was suspended for allegedly disregarding government order (GO) with regard to appointments of assistant professors to the Yuvaraja’s College in October and was reinstated only on Friday following the HC intervention. But within two days, the government has changed his position. Transferring him to home department despite HC order is making many believe there is something fishy and that government may be targeting Basavaraju.
