Mysuru: A man was found dead in the forest area near Harohalli, Jayapura on the morning of January 22. He was found with gunshot wounds.
The deceased has been identified as Shivannegowda, a labourer aged 50, and son of Javaregowda, both residents of Kaniyanahundi of the H D Kote taluk.
Shivannegowda is said to have gone hunting for wild boar into the forest as part of a five member team at 8.30 PM, the previous day. Three members of the team were from Heggur and the other two were from Kaniyanahundi.
A passerby found Shivannegowda’s body and alerted the Jayapura police immediately. Upon initial investigation, it was found that there were tracks left behind that indicated that the deceased was dragged behind a bike. The deceased also had bruises on his body, apart from the bullet wounds.
Kareem Rauther, Circle Inspector of the Mysuru South police station, said that as yet, it wasn’t clear whether his bullet injuries were a result of firing by the poachers or the Forest Department personnel. He also added that the police were investigating all possibilities.
A case has been registered by the police.
