Mysuru: Here is good news for the industrialists! If everything goes accordingly and state government gives possession certificate which is stated to be given in another 10 days’ time, the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) will set up Inland Container Depot (ICD) between Kadakola and Tandavapura region in another 16 months’ time. It will be just on the lines of one which already exists at Whitefield in Bengaluru.

This was a long pending demand of industrialists belonging to Hassan, Mysuru, Nanjangud, Chamarajanagar, Coorg and other surrounding places. The depot will serve the industries and facilitate their cargo and freight movement to the port. Laying track for the proposed project will commence once the land is allotted to CCI. At present most of the cargo meant for exports is sent to Chennai and Mangalore port by road which adds to the cost and time whereas the CONCOR facility at the proposed place will provide a safer and more reliable alternative to road. The goods like engineering products, coffee, electronics and other allied items are exported from the region. This will help the industrialists in a big way.

Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Group General Manager and Head of CCI Karnataka said, “As per revised plan, the depot will be set up in 55 acre land at a cost of Rs 100 Crore. Once the depot becomes a reality, it will be big boost to industrialists. For custom duty, they need not go to port; all formalities will be done at the depot and a separate office of customs will be set up. Two railway lines-loading line and engine escape line will be set up which will be controlled by Kadakola Railway Station. Apart from giving a boost to exports from the region, the lead time taken to ship the containers to port will be reduced thus saving costs apart from generating revenue for the CONCOR. At present, most of the cargo meant for exports is sent to Chennai port by road which adds to the cost and time whereas the CONCOR facility at Nanjangud will provide a safer and more reliable alternative to road. The bulk of the products that are exported from region include general engineering products, coffee, electronic items and agro based products. The INC will have good warehouse facility which will be coming up in 1000 sq mtr area. We will also provide door to door service. Hence I request industries to make use of the facility which will be a reality in another 16 months’ time.”

He also mentioned that CONCOR had purchased 55 acre of land by negotiating at Rs 35 Lakh per acre.

Arjun Ranga, Chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry, Mysuru chapter who also spoke on the occasion said, “Once the ICD becomes a reality at Kadakola, it will be a big boost to the industries. It will not only reduce the cost but also save precious time and manpower. The completion of double line between Mysuru and Bengaluru will be an added advantage.

Representatives from various industries including BEML, Cycle Pure Agarbathies, J K Tyre and Automotive Axles took part in the interaction with Dr. Anup Dayanand.
