Bellari: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) while raiding the houses owned by K Marigadi, acting sub-registrar of Hoovina Hadagali in Ballari, on Thursday, March 16 also ended up counting the number of his wives along with the illegal assets owned by them on his behalf.

ACB officails found no clues concerning Marigadi’s marriage with first wife Huligemma and third wife Sudha. His second wife Yallamma though, has filed for divorce in Siriguppa court, whose hearing is in progress.

Eight sites and a house were found in his wife Sudha’s name, said Kalaburgi and Bellary ACB SP Anita Haddennanavara.

In Basaveshwara Layout alone, Marigadi owned houses in the name of first wife Huligemma, third wife Sudha and deed-writer Althaf, a close ally.

SP Anitha revealed, “In all, Rs 3.5 Lakh in cash and an apartment in the name of Marigadi’s son were found during the raid. A car and two two-wheelers were also seized. Preliminary investigations revealed properties disproportionate to his source of income.”

Records relating to houses of Kadalabalu vllage resident A M Kotresha and Kadalebalu camp’s Suryanarayana who are said to be close to Marigadi are being verified.

Kotresha, owns a DTP centre close to Tahsildar’s office and few touts are managing Marigadi’s affairs concerning registrations of land, sites whereas Suryanarayana, a native of Andhra Pradesh is an agriculturist.

Records of Hoovina Hadagali deputy registrar’s office where Marigadi is working are also under the scanner.

Marigadi turned down promotion!

Marigadi started his career as a peon in the deputy registrar’s office in 1989, who later got promoted as a second division assistant (SDA) before getting assigned to the Hosapete office. He turned down promotion orders fearing transfer to a distant place and continued as SDA.

Marigadi sniffed ACB raids well in advance

The sub-registrar had sniffed the raid some time ago, it is said. Marigadi had taken over as the acting sub-registrar of Hoovina Hadagali in February, and preferred travelling daily to Hosapete. He was earlier suspended on the grounds of dereliction of duty at Hagaribommanahalli office of the deputy registrar as SDA. Only after his suspension orders were revoked, he was assigned Hosapete office.

The rumour about the tip-off was heard after raids in the deputy registrar’s office at Hoovinahadagali on Thursday. Marigadi had confided of differences with staff over sharing money with his close friends, and the possible role of his adversaries planning to trap him by complaining to ACB officials.
