Mysuru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah, on Tuesday, said that Karnataka is still an industry-friendly state which has attracted investments of Rs 1.21 lakh crore in the last two years.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Rs 2,200-crore Asian Paints factory and the KIADB industrial area near Adakanahalli in his Varuna constituency, the CM rubbished opposition charges that he is against industries. He said that his government has set a target to attract an investment of Rs 5 lakh crore and generate employment to about 15 lakh people in the next five years.

The state will extend full cooperation to investors to set up industries. The government has approved proposals to set up industries in Yadgir, Mysuru, Chamrajnagar and Belagavi districts, he added.

He said that the agriculture sector should also flourish, as more then 60 per cent of people depend on farming for their livelihood in the state.

‘Invest Karnataka,’ a mega investors’ meet, in 2016, will be held by the state government, he added.

He also said that the government will announce a textile policy that will come into effect from October 2.

In a bid to reduce red tape, the government has launched an online system for registering and applying for permission to set up industries,  the CM said.

The Asian Paints plant will generate employments for about 9,000 people and produce 6 lakh kilo litres of paint per annum.

Film City in Mysuru

The state government will soon clear the proposal for a Film City, on 150 acres at Immavu and set up an international Buddhism research centre, he added.
