Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) celebrated 26th Codava National Day at Gandhi Maidan on November 24 demanding union territory status to Kodagu.
President of CNC N U Nachappa lead the impressive ceremony where the traditional Codava culture came to the fore. A huge procession “Dudikotta Pat” was organised which started at Gandhi Maidan and passed through the main roads and returned to the venue through General Thimmaiah Circle.
N U Nachappa performed the symbolic cutting of banana stumps, a well-known ritual associated with the traditional Codava functions. Many traditional cultural programmes were part of the celebration.
The programme began by remembering all those who sacrificed their lives for CNC cause and those who died in the recent past.
They thanked all the leaders irrespective of party affiliations, writers, activists and others who helped in keeping the CNC movement alive despite several setbacks.
They placed their charter of 12 demands and passed a resolution which was ratified by the gathering.
Men and Women dressed in traditional attire took active part in the day’s celebrations. Participants were served with traditional sumptuous Codava lunch after the celebration.
