Madikeri: The rumours of abduction of kids in various pockets of the district have been taking toll on the attendance of the students in remote government schools.

Speaking about the same, Cheriyaparambu Government Higher Primary School Development and Monitoring Committee President P M Abdul Kareem has urged the district police to take appropriate steps to allay fears of the locals.

Addressing a news conference on Thursday, Kareem said that rumours of abduction of kids are making rounds in Siddapura, Kadanga, Kolakeri and Cheriyaparambu areas as a result of which parents have been keeping their school going kids indoors.

“Though the matter has been brought to the notice of the police, no action has been taken by them so far,” he said adding that since the situation is going from bad to worse, the district administration and the police have to act now.

He pointed out that most of the school premises have become havens for anti-socials in the evenings and when the matter is brought to the notice of the police, they do not even have the courtesy to visit the schools to find out if there is any truth in the complaint or not.
