Madikeri: Sun dawned in the picturesque hill town after showers brought in relief from scorching heat to bring in more cheer among the residents as the 3-decade old demand for a private bus-stand materialised with its inaugural. In addition, a market built at a cost of Rs 3 Crore and an Indira Canteen were also inaugurated by the District In-charge Minister M R Seetharam on March 22.

The inaugural of these projects brought out mixed emotions as City Municipal Council President Kaveramma Somanna turned emotional at one end as the long pending project saw the light of the day during her tenure, though not fully complete.

But It was India Canteen which took the limelight as the citizens went gaga over the quality of food served and the new outlet came in for praise from all quarters. Idly-Sambar and Palav served at Rs 5 and lunch at Rs 10 is of “super” quality exclaimed few at the venue but never forgot to caution the administration to maintain the quality on their way out.

Works related to the private bus-stand are 75 percent complete and is likely to become fully operational in the next 2-3 weeks’ time.

Tension prevailed at the venue as the name of Virajpet MLA and former speaker K G Bopaiah was left out in the list of invitees. BJP supporters revolted against the administration’s move but Congressmen retorted saying that due importance was given to BJP by inviting Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan. Ultimately, peace prevailed when men in uniform stepped in!

MLC Veena Achaiah, Deputy Commissioner P I Sreevidya, Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad, ZP-CEO Prashanth Kumar Mishra, CMC Commissioner Shubha and many elected representatives along with officials were present on the occasion.
