Chettalli: A rogue elephant that was out in open, barging into human settlements has finally been captured by the forest officials on Sunday at Chettalli in Kodagu.
As per forest department sources, in future the operations will continue to nab the rogue elephants unleashing terror in the region. As of now, the forest officials are planning to nab four of such rogues who have turned nightmare for locals. The two out of the four identified rogue elephants are in Madikeri division while rest two are in Virajpet division, it is said.
The responsibility of the entire operation has been given to Kushalnagar forest officials, who have formed a team for the accomplishment of the mission.
The team started off with Virajpet division and began the operation on November 11 with all crucial details in hand.
The rogue elephant that was spotted on Sunday morning was tranquilised at about 6.30 am. After walking 500 mts into the wild, the elephant fell unconscious due to the tranquiliser, after which tamed elephants of Dubare camp-Abhimanyu, Harsha, Gajendra, Krishna and two others managed to get the rogue elephants into the lorry so that it could be brought to Dubare elephant camp.
At about 2.30 pm, the elephant was put into confinement and soon its ‘schooling’ will begin in Dubare camp.
