Mandya: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi joined the mother and sister of slain activist Gauri Lankesh at the Bharat Jodo Yatra here on Friday October 7 saying he stood with her and countless others who “represent the true spirit of India”.
He claimed that the Bharat Jodo Yatra represents the voice of individuals like Lankesh. Gandhi stated on Twitter that Lankesh stood for truth, bravery, and freedom.
“I stand for Gauri Lankesh and countless others like her, who represent the true spirit of India. Bharat Jodo Yatra is their voice. It can never be silenced,” Gandhi stated while posting a picture of himself holding Lankesh’s mother’s hand and walking with her family.
On September 5, 2017, an assassination attempt was made on Lankesh, the Editor of the Kannada weekly Lankesh Patrike, outside her home in Rajarajeshwari Nagar.
Jairam Ramesh, General Secretary of the Congress, also posted a photo of Gandhi walking with Lankesh’s mother and sister.
“We all know the ideology that took away the life of Gauri Lankesh. Walking beside Gauri Lankesh’s mother and sister, Rahul Gandhi tells the world that truth can never be silenced by hate and violence. BharatJodoYatra signifies hope, ahimsa and truth.”
The 3,570-kilometre linv Bharat Jodo Yatra started on September 7 in Kanyakumari. The yatra has so far covered hundreds of kilometres through Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, the three southern states.
