Mandya: Two infants died and seven are fighting for survival after DPT (DPT, a class of combination vaccines against three infectious diseases in humans: diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus) injections were administered to nine infants by primary medical health care staff, Holalu in coordination with Asha workers in Chinnagiridoddi taluk.
Bhuvan and Preetham are the deceased infants.
Accused of medical negligence, parents and guardians of deceased infants joined the rest and said the children fell ill soon after they were injected with DPT vaccines.
Bhuvan died at Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) hospital after his condition deteriorated first followed by Preetham.
Parents and guardians protested in front of the hospital demanding action against those responsible for infant deaths and provide compensation to the families.
MIMS director Dr. G M Prakash, Medical Superintendent Dr. Hanumath Prasad, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. K Mohan and Taluk Medical Officer Dr. Shashidhar Basavaraj visited the ailing children and ordered action against the negligent staff after investigation.
Mandya Rural Police have registered a case.
