Mysuru: The mayoral elections for the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) will be held on January 24, announced the regional commissioner.
The elections for the posts of both mayor and deputy mayor will be held on the same day and the seats are reserved for women candidates from scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) communities respectively, he stated.
With only two women from SC community, both from Congress, the party has the undue advantage of occupying the top with post while either BJP or JDS will share the deputy mayor’s post. It is a clever political ploy by the chief minister to ensure Congress retains the top post in the corporation during the election year as well as at the end of the tenure of the present city council, say political analysts.
However, BJP and JDS are likely to continue their present understanding in the council with Bhagyavathi from Congress almost certain to occupy the slot barring political hara-kiri.
