In a major crackdown on illegal encroachments, the Mysore Development Authority (MDA) has reclaimed approximately 8 acres of prime government land near Basavanahalli in Mysuru taluk, estimated to be worth crores of rupees.
The land was allegedly being misused for unauthorised construction, prompting swift action from MDA. During the operation, the authority demolished illegally built structures using JCB machines, restoring the land to its original status.
Officials confirmed that the demolition was carried out as part of a planned enforcement drive to recover public land and prevent further unauthorised occupation. The MDA team, accompanied by security personnel, carried out the operation without resistance.
Authorities stated that such illegal structures often spring up on valuable government land with the intent of later regularisation, which affects planned urban development. By taking decisive action, MDA has sent a strong message that encroachments will not be tolerated.
Sources indicate that the reclaimed land may now be earmarked for public infrastructure or housing projects, ensuring it benefits the broader community.
The crackdown is part of a larger effort to curb unauthorised development across Mysuru and enforce stricter compliance with urban planning laws. Further investigations are reportedly underway to identify those responsible for the encroachment.
