Mysore: A marriage in secrecy between two minors in a temple few months ago came to light after the girl studying in 10th grade became pregnant.
Girl, a resident of N R Mohalla studying at a government high school fell in love with a street doll vendor.
The girl’s guardians who became aware of their love affair, advised the girl to stay away from the boy. When she refused, she was thrown out of the house. Later the girl got married with her lover at a city temple and exchanged wedding garlands. Boy’s parents sheltered the couple fearing societal rebuke.
When the girl stayed away from school for over a month, school authorities learnt of her marriage and informed the Child Helpline. Officials of the Department of Women and Child Welfare, during investigation also learnt of girl’s pregnancy.
Narasimharaja police registered a case and moved the 16-year-old girl to Child Care Centre and subjected boy to further investigation.
