Residents of Ward 10 in Saraguru town are living in constant fear due to the relentless antics of a mischievous monkey, locally called Kapirayan.
Over the past weeks, the monkey menace has steadily worsened, leaving everyone—from children to senior citizens—afraid to step out of their homes. Locals report that the animal is not only damaging property but has also started climbing onto the shoulders of the elderly and young children, creating panic and risking injury.
Adding to their worries, the area has seen an increase in stray dogs, making daily life more stressful for residents.
Frustrated by the lack of intervention, people have formally appealed to the Saraguru Town Panchayat, urging officials to capture the monkey and relocate it to a safer habitat. They have also requested immediate measures to control the stray dog population and restore peace in the neighbourhood.
Locals say they are hopeful the authorities will act quickly before the situation escalates further.
