Mysuru: During the ongoing Dasara celebrations in Mysuru, the city showcases a blend of rich puppet shows and garden festivals, while the less privileged in Kerikeri commemorate their ancestors through humble festivities. These observances involve placing images of deities, crafted from materials like copper, brass, or wood, on banana leaves for worship.
Families engaged in farming, trade, and business partake in special pujas as part of their Dasara traditions, which also include the Ayudha Puja. Temples across the city conduct special pujas for all nine days of Navratri, while numerous programs and events, including those at the palace, are organized at various locations.
Dasara is celebrated by people from various religious backgrounds, including Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Jains. The city witnesses a surge in visitors, filling theaters, hotels, resorts, and homestays. Many people from rural areas stay with their relatives in the city. As evening falls, families come together to partake in the festivities, which may include food fairs, flower shows, exhibitions, visits to palaces, and art galleries. The streets are adorned with colorful decorations, and electric lights illuminate the roads.
On Dasara day, crowds gather to witness the grand Jumboo Savari procession. While the families of politicians and bureaucrats enjoy the spectacle from shaded areas with their Dasara passes, others, despite their financial means, purchase high-value passes to partake in the experience. For those who cannot obtain such passes, they find spots on K.R. Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, lower-lying areas, near buildings, or under the shade of trees to savor these enchanting moments. The joyous memories created on this day linger in their minds until the next Dasara.
