Mysuru’s Additional Deputy Commissioner, P Shivaraju, urged students to avoid the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol during an awareness event at Maharaja’s Pre-University College on Wednesday. The event, organized by the State Temperance Board, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Information and Public Relations, and the college, focused on educating students about the dangers of substance abuse.
Shivaraju emphasized the importance of treating one’s body with respect, likening it to a place of worship. He encouraged students to cultivate good habits and values that would guide them towards leading dignified and successful lives. The officer stressed that students should focus on their education, career goals, and personal development, steering clear of distractions like alcohol. He also encouraged them to use social media and television positively, aligning these activities with constructive pursuits that support their success.
Shivaraju also appealed to students not to idolize cinema heroes, but to become their own role models. Psychiatrist Dr BN Raveesh further advised students to avoid junk food for better health. The event was attended by Assistant Director of Information TK Harish, District Health and Family Welfare Surveillance Officer Dr Nagaraju, and Maharaja’s PU College Principal Udayashankar.
