Mysuru: A special POCSO Court has ordered a fine of Rs. 1 Lakh and awarded rigourous imprisonment for 30 years after charges of rape were proved against the accused. Mallesh of Akala Village of Nanjanagudu Taluk is the accused who has been sentenced.
In the year 2020, Corona infection had its impact everywhere and there was a situation of lockdown in their respective homes. During this lockdown period the school declared holidays. The father of the accused Mallesh brought his younger sister’s daughter, who was studying in Class 9, to his house. From June to December 2020, the girl stayed at his house. Accused Mallesh raped her 7 to 8 times when the girl was at home while her parents went to work in the farm. Later, he threatened to kill her if she told anyone about this.
The girl was scared and did not tell anyone. Later, due to this misdeed, the girl became pregnant and on March 17, 2021, the girl gave birth to a girl child. This matter has come to light from the investigation of the case. In this regard, a case was registered in Hullahalli Police Station and the Police have submitted the chargesheet to the court.
Judge Shyam Khamroj of the POCSO Special Court, which conducted the hearing, sentenced Mallesh to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1 Lakh under the POCSO Act. The judge ordered to give Rs. 75,000 to the girl and she is eligible to get Rs. 5 Lakh compensation from the State Government. Special Public Prosecutor K. B. Jayanthi presented the argument on behalf of prosecution.
