Mysuru: Children below the age of 18 years have been banned from being used for election campaigning in the run-up to the 2023 General Elections and warned of action if such a case is found.
The Government of India and the United Nations approved the Convention on the Rights of the Child on December 11, 1992, which is considered to be a child under the age of 18 years under the Rights of the Child and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Sections 32 and 36 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child provide for taking appropriate measures to prevent children from working in areas that are dangerous to the health and education of children and from participating in any activities that may hamper the development of children.
“The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also requested to take necessary steps to ensure that no party uses children below the age of 18 years in election activities (publicity and other activities) and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken as per the Act if children are used in election activities,” said Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. V. Rajendra.
