Mysuru: “The ‘Beda’ community of Halagali Village in Bagalakote District were brave soldiers who sounded the trumpet of rebellion in their own way in India’s freedom struggle and created public awareness against the British,” said MLA L. Nagendra.
Addressing the gathering after paying floral tributes at Independence Day programme organised by Nayaka community at Jaladarshini Guest House in City on Monday August 15 he said that the Beda community’s struggle always inspires and is memorable. He said Beda leaders Hanamappa, Jadaga, Bala, Rama, Bhima, and Dyama were in forefront of the freedom struggle and failing to defeat them, the British forces set fire to the whole village in the midnight. 23 Bada community people were burnt and killed alive. He said that the heroic deeds of Halagali Bedas, who fought without the help of any State, will be written in the golden letters on the pages of history.
