In a high-stakes intelligence-driven operation, Mumbai Police dismantled a major mephedrone drug manufacturing network by uncovering a covert production facility hidden behind a garage in Mysuru, Karnataka. The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Saki Naka police, in collaboration with Mysuru City Police, arrested four suspects and seized narcotics worth ₹390 crore.

The operation began in April when a man was caught selling mephedrone in Mumbai’s Saki Naka area. Further arrests in Vasai led investigators to a larger drug supply chain. A breakthrough came during the questioning of Salim Imtiaz Sheikh alias Salim Langda (45), a Bandra resident, who disclosed that the MD supply originated from Mysuru.

Following this tip, a Mumbai police team deployed technical surveillance and traced the illicit unit to a concealed location along Mysuru’s Ring Road. The July 25 raid led to the seizure of 187.97 kg of mephedrone worth ₹381.96 crore. Previously, 4 kg valued at ₹8.04 crore had been confiscated from Kaman village, Vasai—bringing the total haul to 192.53 kg.

Authorities also recovered raw materials, chemical substances, drug-processing equipment, and machines. The unit was identified as a key source fuelling Mumbai’s narcotics trade.

Police Commissioner Deven Bharti hailed the operation as a vital victory in the ongoing battle against drug networks, emphasizing its significance in targeting the root of drug production.

The case is being pursued under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
