A recent car accident involving a stray cow near the M.G. Road Vegetable Market has underscored the persistent issue of stray cattle on city roads. The incident, which occurred around 9 pm, involved a car (KA-55-R-2470) heading towards the Mall of Mysore from JSS Hospital striking a cow in the middle of the road. The collision caused the cow to fall and injure its leg, though it survived thanks to immediate first-aid provided by concerned citizens.
Despite earlier improvements due to strict enforcement by the City Police and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), the stray cattle problem has resurfaced. Recent enforcement lapses have led to a chaotic situation where vendors, commuters, and stray cattle now occupy the streets, causing traffic disruptions and safety concerns.
Authorities had previously implemented a no-parking rule and restricted vendors to market boundaries to reduce congestion and stray cattle issues. However, with these measures not being consistently enforced, the situation has reverted to its previous state.
Residents and Traffic Police have expressed frustration over the ongoing problem, urging the MCC to take swift action to address the issue and prevent further incidents. The stray cattle, particularly in the M.G. Road area, contribute to frequent accidents and significant public inconvenience.
