Mysuru: The protesting farmers of the region withdrew their stir on November 29 following an assurance by the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to fulfill their demands.

Farmers under the banner “Karnataka State Cane Growers Association” who were staging protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding fulfillment of their various demands including scientific prize for sugarcane withdrew their protest after Siddaramaiah called upon Deputy Commissioner D Randeep to convene a meeting with the owner of Bannari Amman Sugar Factory and sort out the problems of farmers within a couple of days. Based on his assurance, the farmers who were staging protest from November 28 withdrew their protest.

D Randeep said, “As of now, Bannari Amman Sugar Factory owner is giving Rs 2550 per tonne of sugarcane but the farmers are demanding additional incentives from the factory owner. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed us to speak to the owner of Bannari Amman Factory and provide incentives of Rs 250 per tonne apart from the FRP of Rs 2550 which they have paid. Even during sugar control board meeting, they have advised Bannari Amman Sugar Factory owner to give Rs 250 per tonne as incentives to farmers.”
