Mysore: Sleuths of District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) have arrested four persons on charges of killing an elderly home-alone woman who had given the house on rent to them in city.

The arrested have been identified as Manjunath of Kumbarakoppal, Shivaraj of Lakshmikanthanagar, Shivamurthy of Koodagi village in Kodagu and M.S. Bharath alias Sanju, of Hebbal.

It may be recalled that on May 23, the four had murdered Lakshmamma (60), by strangulating her with a rope and had robbed 40 gram gold jewellery she was wearing and had also robbed imitation jewellery that she had kept in the locker.

The four accused after murdering Lakshmamma, took the body in a Tata Indica Car (KA-12-A-1518) belonging to Shivaraj and dumped the body in Mandakalli Lake on Mysore-Nanjangud road after tying a stone to the body to make sure that the body of Lakshmamma does not float.

But on May 27, the body of Lakshmamma was found floating in a highly decomposed state by one Hebbalegowda, a resident of Mandakalli village who immediately gave a complaint to Mysore Rural Police.

The Mysore Rural Police, who registered a complaint, managed to identify the body on June 4 and had handed over the body of Lakshmamma after post mortem.

According to the police, the accused Manjunath who noticed Lakshmamma wearing gold jewellery during festivals, hatched a plan to murder Lakshmamma and took a room on rent in Lakshmamma’s house. He used to leave early in the morning for work and return in the night to sleep.

As he was well acquainted with Lakshmamma, no one doubted him. Just after six days of taking the room on rent, Manjunath along with his friends murdered Lakshmamma. Moreover Manjunath, continued living there for four more days until the Police identified the body.

As he did not want to be doubted, Manjunath attended the last rites of Lakshmamma and even conducted the 11th day ceremony of her. The Police who registered a case on June 4, suspected the involvement of Manjunath who had taken the room on rent and interrogated him. Manjunath on interrogation, admitted to have committed the crime following which the cops arrested the four.
