Three Tanzanian nationals get jail term for overstaying

Mysuru: The district IV Judicial Magistrate of First Class (JMFC )court sentenced three Tanzanian nationals with simple imprisonment of one month and fined Rs 8000 extra for overstaying in the country after their Visa expiry.

Atupele Friday Mwakyusa, Evance Damasi Mlay, Aidan Emilian Riwa were sentenced by the court after verifying all documents related to their stay in the country. As per section 14 of the Foreigners Act, whoever violates visa conditions faces a jail term which may extend to five years and shall also be liable to fine.

City Crime Branch (CCB) had instructed local police stations to verify the details of all foreign nationals staying in the country and submit a report on those overstaying after Visa expiry. Accordingly, Vijayanagar police found 3 Tanzanian nationals overstaying in their jurisdiction during the course of investigations and had submitted the details of the trio to the court.
