Tiger loses life in territorial battle in Bandipur

Mysuru: A large male tiger, aged around 10, was found dead in core area of Bandipur National Park on Monday, reportedly due to territorial fight between two males.

While the authorities have ruled out the possibility of foul play, they have suspected that the tiger might have died two days ago.

The carcass with deep injuries and dismembered tongue was recovered near Beladakuppe temple.

Experts say that the Post Mortem report showed that the incisors and two canine teeth of the Big Cat had worn out, indicating old age and hence this tiger could have not matched up to the vigour and strength of the new dominant and younger male.

The claws and the skin were intact though decomposition had set in, and there were sufficient evidence of a territorial fight at the spot with blood spattered in the vicinity, reports The Hindu.
