UoM to release commemorative coins for centenary celebration

Mysuru: As a part of the University of Mysore’s centenary celebration, a commemorative coin of Rs.100 and a circulation coin of Rs.5 will be released by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Venkaiah Naidu at Crawford Hall on December 3.

K S Rangappa, Vice Chancellor, UOM said “To commemorate University centenary celebration, after getting permission from University Grants Commission we approached Union Finance Ministry to release the commemorative coins. Based on our request finance ministry approved the same. The finance ministry had asked the university to send the design and logo to be minted on coins. Later after discussion, the coins were designed on the basis of motto of the university. After Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, who too celebrated centenary celebration few months back we are second University in the country to release commemorative coins.” On the occasion “Centenary Coffee Table Book” reflecting 100 years journey of University will be released by Hampana.

UGC Chairman Ved Prakash to inaugurate College Principals Meet

After inaugurating the newly constructed UGC-Human Resource Development Centre at Manasa Gangotri campus on December 1, he will declare open the College principals meet on “Quality Enhancement in Higher Education: Issues and Concerns” at Crawford Hall at 10.30 am. On the occasion he will also be releasing a book on “Language politics and policies in India during 20th century” authored by Midatala Rani.

UoM to host Indian Social Science Congress from December 19 to 23

After playing host to the 103rd Indian Science Congress (ISC) and organising a lecture series from Nobel Laureates as part of its centenary celebrations, the University of Mysore (UoM) is all set to organise the 40th session of Indian Social Science Congress (ISSC) from December 19 to 23. The five-day meet will focus on health and quality of life in India. “We are trying our best to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the event” added Rangappa.
