Mysuru: The VTU has approved the starting of four engineering colleges beginning this academic year. They include two government engineering colleges and an architecture college in Bengaluru. There are now a total of 218 engineering colleges affiliated to the VTU.
This is good news especially for students of north Karnataka who are aspiring to become engineers. The colleges that have gotten the approval of the VTU are East West School of Architect at Magadi Road in Bengaluru and Jain College for Engineering and Research in Belagavi and two government colleges- Government Engineering College at Gangavati and Government Engineering College at Yelburga, both in the Koppala district.
Engineering colleges run by the government have their own benefits as their fees are lesser than that of private colleges. There is also no requirement for donations and the seats are allotted purely on the basis of CET performance. This will also prove beneficial as students from north Karnataka will be able to pursue their studies in their own region. Most of the 218 engineering colleges in Karnataka are located in Bengaluru, Mysuru, the coastal region especially Mangaluru and in Hubballi and Belagavi.
Jaganmatha Reddy, Registrar of the VTU told NewsKarnataka that the new colleges will have four departments viz., Civil, Mechanical, Electronics and Communication and Computer Science. “The maximum intake in each of the branches will be 60 students,” he added.
